While I’m getting a little weary about Jindal’s trips outside the state, I don’t see it to be that bad of an issue. If Jindal is trying to also get businesses to come to the state, more power to him. He was able to broker a deal for another company to purchase the chicken plant in Farmerville so it’s not like Jindal is resting on his laurels.
What’s really funny is someone like Marc Morial is coming out to criticize the governor. Morial has run New Orleans into the ground during his eight years as mayor. Lets not forget that this man had a janitor on the city payroll making six figures a year. He was one of the most corrupt mayors in the city and surprisingly this man is not in jail.
While Jindal has been trying to attract more businesses to Lousiana. Marc Morial’s administration has frightened business away from New Orleans, taking those jobs with them. Nagin’s administration has also continued this trend. It wasn’t Katrina folks, it was New Orleans high taxes and unfriendly business environment. Katrina just magnified those problems and put them on a national stage.
If anything Mr. Morial, I’d be more worried that Jim Letten or anyone else investigating City Hall doesn’t uncover your dealings. If Jindal becomes unpopular, he just loses his reelection in 2011. You on the other hand should be worrying about not ending up in federal “pound me in the ass” prison.
More information has come about regarding the parties involved in the NOLA Email Scandal:
Tech chief Anthony Jones has been suspended for 120 days without pay. While he can appeal, his suspension is in response to the crime camera dealings that cost the city over $4 million dollars. He’s also involved with handing over emails from councilmember’s inboxes to city sanitation head Veronica White who then turned them over to Tracie Washington, bypassing a proper FOIA request.
Sadly I feel Sidney is being setup here. I’m not saying its Veronica White’s flunkies but someone is out to get Sidney and make his company look bad. I’m certainly grateful for the work his company and his people have done to keep the French Quarter nice and clean.
Finally, Mayor Nagin’s Chief Administrative Officer, Brenda Hatfield, acknowledged the FBI probe into the email scandal. She didn’t comment on any specifics but confirmed that the feds are now looking into the matter. That’s right Sugar Ray, you and your confederacy of dunces are on Letten’s radar.
It’s funny how congressional Democrats are now outraged against executives at AIG who got bonuses and donate to their campaigns. Bailout backlash is the hot new thing with the kids these days and now the Dems are back peddling to show the American public how much they care about how our tax dollars are spent. Its comical considering they came to that decision $3.6 trillion dollars ago.
Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) has received over $100k in campaign financing from AIG and leads the pack of any politician to receive money from AIG. Dodd had also placed an amendment to the stimulus bill that allowed businesses that were bailed out by the government to keep their bonuses if they were contracted before February of this year. The Fed knew before throwing money at AIG that these bonuses have been allocated in legally binding contracts.
If government had not intervened and let AIG go into bankruptcy, a bankruptcy court would have the legal authority to absolve those contracts. Not only would the taxpayer save millions on the bonuses, they would have saved BILLIONS by not bailing out AIG. In fact, AIG would have to restructure their business to become profitable again, including firing the same execs that ran it into the ground.
What really burns my ass is that two weeks ago, the Fed loaned AIG another $30 billion from TARP. Now all of a sudden they’re outraged at the bonuses? Where was the outrage against the earmarks in the Omnibus bill? Where was the outrage in the spending in the so called stimulus?
It’s a smoke and mirrors game that’s being played by Washington. They are distracting us for bigger and possibly worse things to come so we won’t notice. I don’t think the AIG execs should get the bonuses either but when the Obama administration had the leverage before giving them another $30 billion, they never used it.
It’s not just Democrats either. Senator McCain is expressing his outrage in typical angry McCain fashion but he supported the original TARP bailout. Perhaps he should have thought of it before voting for it.
Rick Santelli is right. Forget about the bonuses and get mad at the bailouts. If AIG was never bailed out in the first place, idiots like Dodd and Chucky Schumer (D-NY) wouldn’t have an excuse to grandstand with their false outrage.
You know, I’ve disagreed with this President on a lot of things, but nothing tops this. Its a low down dirty shame. I’ve always felt that President Obama has had a disdain for members of the military and veterans. Clinton may have dodged the draft but he wouldn’t pull crap like this. Bush may have skirted Vietnam in the guard and he most certainly wouldn’t pull crap like this. Even John McCain who has voted no on every VA spending bill wouldn’t pull crap like this.
Veterans who were put in harms way have more than just earned benefits from the Veterans Administration to treat their injuries at no cost to them. Their service and sacrifice in the line of duty should guarantee them a right to healthcare for any injury they sustained in combat. Especially for troops coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan who all volunteered to serve their country. If they were willing to sacrifice for their country, the country can give back to them for their service.
The only hope is that this proposal is already unpopular with members of the Senate in both parties. I urge anyone who cares about our military and veterans to write your congressional delegation to make sure any bill that transfers forces veterans to use private insurance to pay for the treatment of injuries does not pass. This includes any rider or earmark that has any language that may suggest using private insurance for combat injuries.
Veterans who did their duty earned it. President Obama should at least give them that respect.
New Orleans Police Department is investigating an officer who attended a recall rally against Stacy Head. Officer Donald Barryhill is assigned to the sanitiation department for code enforcement to prevent illegal dumping in the city. The police department is investigating his actions in being involved with the recall as a conflict of interest and violation of civil service.
Councilwoman Head claims another NOPD officer, Joseph Dyson, is involved in the recall effort and also assigned to the city sanitation department. Head has every right to be concerned about the link between the sanitation department and those calling for her recall.
A couple things also pointed out in this article with the Times-Picayune: The other person involved in the recall, Barbara Ann Jackson, is a former campaign canvasser of family members of “Dollar” Bill Jefferson and the person who Head defeated is the girlfriend of Jefferson’s brother. So now there’s a link between the Jefferson family (who some were already charged by US Attorney Jim Letten), Head’s Recall, and quite possibly the recall against Congressman Joe Cao.
There very well may be a large corruption ring going on in this city that’s bigger than Huey Long or Edwin Edwards could ever come up with. Head and Cao are two politicians that defeated members of this ring and are looking to clean up New Orleans for the better. I’m not big on conspiracy theories but I can imagine that when this thing comes to a head (no pun intended), we’re going to see a whole mess of people end up in jail.
For New Orleanians who want to see justice done, write Senator Mary Landrieu to convince her to keep US Attorney Jim Letten in New Orleans. The man has worked tirelessly to remove corrupt politicians in New Orleans and that’s what needs to be done if New Orleans is going to truely recover. Letten is a Bush appointee and to be honest, it would look very highly on the Obama administration and US Attorney General Eric Holder to allow Letten to see this through by allowing him to keep his job. Even a conservative like myself would give credit where credit’s due.
Mr Holder, if you want people to stop being cowards about race, let Letten keep his job and shut down the race baiting corrpution ring going on in New Orleans. Reasonable people of all races in New Orleans want a better New Orleans to live in. Keep the pressure on the ring and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice swiftly. Keeping Mr. Letten on the job will certainly be the right step in that direction.
First, a Civil District judge ordered activist lawyer Tracie Washington to return all the emails given to her from sanitation head Victoria White. The judge says his staff will examine the emails for sensitive information. That would have been done had Washington honored the original FOIA request instead of having White and city IT head Anthony Jones get involved.
This isn’t over by a longshot. Federal investigators have siezed city computers in regards to the email release. If the feds are involved, all of us in NOLA knows what that means. That’s right, US Attorney Jim Letten will be involved. The confederacy of dunces at city hall should be worried.
This smells of conspiracy, even though I’m not the type to believe in conspiracies. I fully believe that Mayor Nagin, Coucilwoman Cynthia Hedge-Morrell, and Veronica White are working with local moonbats like Washington and Malcom Suber to get rid of Stacy Head. Head’s been the loudest on waste in the city and I have a feeling Nagin has something to hide. Instead they are using a smear campagin to paint Head as a racist to either have her recalled or intimidate her into not running for reelection.
I’m waiting for the day Ray Nagin is perp walked from city hall.
A new non-profit group called Citizens for Accountability and Transparency in Government is calling for Councilwoman Stacy Head to be recalled. The group is headed by Malcom Suber and black ministers who want Head out of the council. According to Suber, who heads the recall, says that District B is: “a majority black district, and we think it should have black representation.” Mr. Suber is a well known activist, communist, and certified moonbat who ran a failed campagin for one of the at-large seats of the council. Perhaps he’s waiting in the wings come 2010 to run again for city council and using this to gain publicity.
Imagine if a white guy said that about a majority white district. Now, for you liberals scanning the blog looking to take something out of context, I’m not suggesting anyone say that. I’m merely saying if a white man had the same argument as Mr. Suber, he would be lambased as a racist. The argument that an area should be represented by someone of a certain race because it’s a majority of that race is a racist view.
Mr. Suber’s recall petition is racially motivated and he is a racist. The ministers involved trying to use their power and influence to support this petition should have their tax exempt status revoked. Its against the law for a church to use their influence in politics and that’s exactly what they’re doing here. Oh wait, that’s the left’s usual line when evangelicals tell people to oppose abortion or gay marriage. Things are different when the shoe is on the other foot.
The irony is that the rally was held at the Dr. Martin Luther King memorial on Claiborne. Dr. King wanted people to be judged on their character and not the color of their skin. The group recalling Head only wants her out because she’s white. Even Mr. Suber mentioned Dr. King’s dream. I think that’s rather interesting Mr. Suber, considering the comment you said that a majority black district must be represented by someone who is black.
I support Stacy Head and what she is doing to actually keep city staff accountable for their actions.
UPDATE: Malcom Suber doesn’t even live in Head’s district. He lives in Gentilly, which is in District D and represented by Cynthia Hedge-Morrel. Hmmmmm……
