Auto Bailout Fails…For Now.

Thank you Senate Republicans. You have heard the will of the people who wanted real conservatives in office and none of this wishy-washy bullcrap that’s got the GOP losing the past couple elections. The senate republicans have held their ground and the now $14 billion bailout for the auto industry has failed for now.

This doesn’t stop Harry Reid to whine, bitch, and complain about how he didn’t get his way and resorts to fear mongering. He says that he dreads looking at Wall Street when trading resumes. Harry, have you been paying attention lately? The market has been on a roller coaster ride since your messiah got elected. In fact, it lost 1200 points at one time before having gains in the past few days. We’re just about at rock bottom here and giving already failing companies money to blow through.

Harry is just upset because he can’t give money to his buddies in the UAW under the guise that it will help our economy. Instead it’s going to help the union bosses who are suckering the workers. The union plays the guilt trip to the public with their ads and by telling their members that they are the victims in all this.

Another idiot, Chris Dodd, is also using the same fear mongering tactics. Listen Dodd, your abuse of power as chairman of the Senate Banking committee is one of the reasons we’re in this mess. How do you sleep at night? How can you rest your head on your pillow while you were screwing America and the American public? How is this guy not in jail already?

The US auto manufacturers have been failing for the past two decades. Thanks to the unions which have bleed them dry , government regulations that force them to make cars nobody wants to buy, competition that makes better cars with slightly cheaper labor, and shoddy management that agreed to all of it without trying to defend themselves. They don’t need a bailout, they need bankruptcy.

At least with bankruptcy, those union workers can still keep their jobs. Just not at the $75/hr of pay and benefits but around the $45 of workers for foreign auto makers with factories in right-to-work states. It will force the companies to restructure and trim the fat of incompetent management. It will make them more efficient and competitive to foreign automakers that are making cars here in the US.

The UAW would not agree to cuts. So auto workers, when you lose your job next year, don’t blame the GOP or the management in the companies you work for, blame your damn union and their foolishness.

Hopefully this is a sign that the GOP is going back to the fiscal conservative values that they abandoned years ago. They’ve revolted against the Bush administration and its big government conservatism. The Obama administration isn’t going to be shy about wasting money on everything they do and we’re going to need some hard-line fiscal conservatives to wrangle in some of the spending.

For now, the bailout fails but I can imagine if the auto companies hang on, an Obama administration with larger Dem majorities in congress will try this again. Thankfully the GOP still has the filibuster.

UPDATE

President Bush will consider using part of the Wall Street bailout for the US Auto industry.  I guess since he’s out the door next month, it doesn’t matter, he’s going to do what he wants.  I guess it doesn’t matter what the American taxpayer thinks.

UPDATE 2

UAW president Ron Gettelfinger is blaming the Republicans for the bailout failure. Hey Ron, why don’t you take a $1/yr salary?
