Bravo Gov. Blagojevich.

Yesterday, Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich appointed former state AG Roland Burris to the senate to fill President-elect Obama’s vacant seat.  The very same seat that has caused a firestorm of press due to the pay-to-play scheme to fill the vacancy.

Senate majority leader Harry Reid on the other hand says he’ll refuse to seat Burris.  This will become a very interesting development as the race baiting has already begun.  This time, it’s being directed towards other Democrats in the Senate and Illinois.

After Blago’s press conference, Democratic Congressman Bobby Rush claimed that Illinois needed to seat a black Senator.  He even warned the press not to “lynch” Burris because he was picked by Blagojevich.  The race card is now in full effect.

Still, it may not stop Reid from using a constitutional amendment that keeps the senate from seating a member.  However, the amendment says that the only thing that would keep Burris from being seated would be if his citizenship and age was an issue or if the election was questionable.  None of those issues seems to be present here and it will be fascinating to see what the US Supreme Court may have to say about it.

Bravo Governor Blagojevich, in a day you’ve turned your own party on its head and they’re scrambling to deny your pick without looking racist. I guess he figures if he’s going down, he’s going to take them all down.

Sen. Reid may want to be careful, he’s up for reelection in 2010 and his constituency isn’t happy about his power trip.  I expect the NRSC to take advantage of it to oust Reid.

UPDATE: Bobby Rush continues to play the race card by comparing Harry Reid to George Wallace.  Awesome
