Fox News may have got the story wrong about Obama wanting to cut the military’s budget by 10 percent. From Congressional Quarterly via Hot Air, Obama set a defense budget limit of $527 billion, not including war costs for FY10. This would be an increase of 8 percent from FY09 defense spending. Fiscal years start on October 1st of the previous calendar year (i.e. 1 Oct 09 will be the start of FY10).
Ed Morrisey of Hot Air says that Fox News should apologize for the error if this is true. I agree, President Bush had gone through this constantly in the press. If anyone is to critisize President Obama on his policies, it should be the truth. How many times have we heard Bush will reinstate the draft when it never happened. Same goes for us on the right, if we are to critisize the President on his policies it should be the truth and not the same nonsense we’ve heard from the left for the past eight years.
In that case, I apologize for the error of a previous blog post if this is true. I’ll continue to keep an eye on it to ensure that this is the case.
If President Obama is serious about keeping our national defense well funded during a time of war, I don’t have a problem agreeing with him on that. If any cuts should be made, it should be made to unecessary defense contracts. What I mean by that are weapons systems that are wasting government time and money like the Crusaider howitzer. I don’t support the cutting of projects like missile defense, especially with North Korea ratting sabres once again.
