Gov. Bobby Jindal got a warm welcome in Farmerville, LA for his role in securing a company to purchase the former Pilgrim’s Pride chicken processing plant. The deal will save the 1200 jobs that are at the plant to include many chicken farmers in North Louisiana.
While Gov. Jindal criticized for not taking unemployment money in the stimulus, the criticism became worse when Pilgrims Pride was looking to close the plant and Jindal was in other states raising money. Former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial was one of those recently who have been criticizing Jindal for his fundraising efforts.
While I’m getting a little weary about Jindal’s trips outside the state, I don’t see it to be that bad of an issue. If Jindal is trying to also get businesses to come to the state, more power to him. He was able to broker a deal for another company to purchase the chicken plant in Farmerville so it’s not like Jindal is resting on his laurels.
What’s really funny is someone like Marc Morial is coming out to criticize the governor. Morial has run New Orleans into the ground during his eight years as mayor. Lets not forget that this man had a janitor on the city payroll making six figures a year. He was one of the most corrupt mayors in the city and surprisingly this man is not in jail.
While Jindal has been trying to attract more businesses to Lousiana. Marc Morial’s administration has frightened business away from New Orleans, taking those jobs with them. Nagin’s administration has also continued this trend. It wasn’t Katrina folks, it was New Orleans high taxes and unfriendly business environment. Katrina just magnified those problems and put them on a national stage.
If anything Mr. Morial, I’d be more worried that Jim Letten or anyone else investigating City Hall doesn’t uncover your dealings. If Jindal becomes unpopular, he just loses his reelection in 2011. You on the other hand should be worrying about not ending up in federal “pound me in the ass” prison.
