NOPD Investigates Officer Involved with White, Head Recall

New Orleans Police Department is investigating an officer who attended a recall rally against Stacy Head.  Officer Donald Barryhill is assigned to the sanitiation department for code enforcement to prevent illegal dumping in the city.  The police department is investigating his actions in being involved with the recall as a conflict of interest and violation of civil service.

Councilwoman Head claims another NOPD officer, Joseph Dyson, is involved in the recall effort and also assigned to the city sanitation department.  Head has every right to be concerned about the link between the sanitation department and those calling for her recall.

A couple things also pointed out in this article with the Times-Picayune:  The other person involved in the recall, Barbara Ann Jackson, is a former campaign canvasser of family members of “Dollar” Bill Jefferson  and the person who Head defeated is the girlfriend of Jefferson’s brother.  So now there’s a link between the Jefferson family (who some were already charged by US Attorney Jim Letten), Head’s Recall, and quite possibly the recall against Congressman Joe Cao.

There very well may be a large corruption ring going on in this city that’s bigger than Huey Long or Edwin Edwards could ever come up with.  Head and Cao are two politicians that defeated members of this ring and are looking to clean up New Orleans for the better.  I’m not big on conspiracy theories but I can imagine that when this thing comes to a head (no pun intended), we’re going to see a whole mess of people end up in jail.

For New Orleanians who want to see justice done, write Senator Mary Landrieu to convince her to keep US Attorney Jim Letten in New Orleans.  The man has worked tirelessly to remove corrupt politicians in New Orleans and that’s what needs to be done if New Orleans is going to truely recover.  Letten is a Bush appointee and to be honest, it would look very highly on the Obama administration and US Attorney General Eric Holder to allow Letten to see this through by allowing him to keep his job. Even a conservative like myself would give credit where credit’s due.

Mr Holder, if you want people to stop being cowards about race, let Letten keep his job and shut down the race baiting corrpution ring going on in New Orleans.  Reasonable people of all races in New Orleans want a better New Orleans to live in.  Keep the pressure on the ring and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice swiftly.  Keeping Mr. Letten on the job will certainly be the right step in that direction.
