Rod Blagojevich (DEMOCRAT) has dominated the headlines this past week. The governor is being charged with trying to sell Barack Obama’s senate seat. He’s also been involved with bribing the Chicago Tribune to fire the editorial board for money to fix up Wrigley Field. That’s just a couple of things we know. There’s still more to see as this starts to unfold.
What’s been so great is that Louisiana politics are now considered child’s play compared to what you have in Chicago. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love Chicago; half my family comes from there, my favorite team plays there, and I’d like to visit again someday. Still, the Daley political machine is nothing to mess with nor do they joke around. The same machine produced Blagojevich and Barack Obama. It’s the same style of politics that have some worried the President-Elect will bring to the White House under his administration. Obama’s pick of Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff doesn’t help.
Blagojevich, a crooked Democratic governor, makes Edwin Edwards look like a saint. Edwards was another crooked Democrat who was put in a federal prison for racketeering. Even with Dollar Bill Jefferson’s trail coming up, him being booted from office this past Saturday makes Louisiana look somewhat better compared to Illinois.
So I say thank you Illinois, you have a governor who may end up in jail after replacing the last governor who ended up in jail. We’re no longer known for dirty politics and it can only get better from here. That’s right Louisiana, we’re moving on up in this country!
I plan to write more about “Blagogate” as it develops. Right now, I’m not going to say that both Blagojevich and Obama are directly connected on the senate seat deal till more information comes out. Not to say that they never had contacted each other. I do believe this will end up being a bad start for the Obama administration. We’ll see for sure as more information is released.
Even USA Today says North Dakota is more corrupt, but not by much. Wait, North Dakota? Really?
BREAKING UPDATE: Blago’s Chief of Staff resigns
UPDATE 2: Iowahawk: Feds uncover Blagojevich’s eBay account. Judging from the screenshots, Blago is brokering the Cubs sale for just only $889 million! I might have to browse over there and bid on it myself.
